Veterans have served our country with strength, dedication, and resilience. At My Family Podiatry in Albany Creek, we believe they deserve the same strength and support when it comes to their healthcare. That’s why we proudly provide podiatry services to patients covered by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), offering comprehensive care tailored to the unique needs of eligible veterans.
Whether you’re managing long-standing foot pain, struggling with nail or skin issues, or simply want to stay mobile and independent, our clinic is here to help.
Who Is Eligible for DVA Podiatry?
Veterans who hold a DVA Gold Card are entitled to receive clinically necessary podiatry services for all conditions. White Card holders may also be eligible for podiatry treatment if it relates specifically to their accepted conditions.
To access DVA-funded podiatry care, you will need a referral from your GP. Once that’s in place, we can provide a wide range of services to help manage pain, improve mobility, and prevent further complications.
What Podiatry Services Do We Offer to DVA Patients?
Our clinic is fully equipped with modern technology and experienced staff to support a wide range of podiatric needs under the DVA scheme. Here’s what we offer:
1. Radial and Focused Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy is a highly effective, non-invasive treatment for chronic musculoskeletal pain. At My Family Podiatry, we offer both radial and focused EMS Dolorclast shockwave therapy.
Radial shockwave is ideal for broader, more superficial conditions such as plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy.
Focused shockwave penetrates deeper, allowing us to target more stubborn or deeper-set issues like hip bursitis or advanced degenerative joint changes.
Shockwave therapy may be recommended for:
Plantar fasciitis
Achilles tendinopathy
Peroneal tendon injuries
Osteoarthritic changes in the heel, midfoot, or knees
Greater trochanteric pain (hip bursitis)
Foot structure plays a key role in how forces travel through your lower limb. If poor foot posture is contributing to your symptoms, custom orthotics may help by improving alignment and redistributing pressure.
Orthotics can support conditions such as:
Arch and heel pain
Arthritic foot deformities
Forefoot pain and metatarsalgia
Reduced stability or balance issues
We offer custom orthotics, specifically tailored to your condition and daily needs.
3. Ingrown Toenail Management
Ingrown toenails can develop at any age, but can be especially difficult to manage if there are other foot related concerns. We provide safe and effective management, whether it’s regular care or permanent nail edge removal when required.
Permanent correction procedures (partial nail avulsion) are performed in our clinic under local anaesthetic and typically have minimal downtime.
4. Skin and Nail Care
Routine podiatry appointments can prevent minor issues from turning into major complications. During your visits, we’ll look after:
Nail trimming and fungal nail management
Callus and corn removal
Skin integrity checks
Wound care advice
This is especially important if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or are on medications that impact healing.
5. Medical Grade Footwear Advice
Footwear plays a huge role in both comfort and safety. Many veterans benefit from a footwear review to ensure their shoes are fit for purpose, especially if they are wearing orthotics or have developed structural changes in their feet.
Where appropriate, we may recommend or prescribe medical grade footwear to accommodate pressure points or improve stability.
