WHO ARE RUNNING ASSESSMENTS FOR?

Running assessments suit runners at almost every stage. We see beginner runners who want to start out properly and stay injury free, and teen athletes building the foundations of long-term sport.

We also work with casual runners who feel their technique is holding them back, and competitive athletes chasing performance gains.

And we regularly assess injured runners, particularly those dealing with shin splints, plantar fasciitis, or knee pain that keeps coming back.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN A RUNNING ASSESSMENT?

A running assessment at My Family Podiatry takes around 60 minutes and covers the full picture of how your body moves under load.

We start off the treadmill with a non-weight bearing examination of foot posture, joint range and mobility, including the knee-to-wall test. This tells us what your feet and lower limbs are capable of at rest.

We then move to strength and symmetry testing using VALD Force Decks, which gives us hard numbers on how each leg is loading and pushing off.

From there it's onto the treadmill for high-speed video gait analysis, both barefoot and in your usual running shoes, so we can see what is actually happening when you run.

Finally, we review your current footwear, talk through what would suit you better if anything, and put it all together into a personalised running plan covering strength work, mobility, footwear, and any treatment you need.

WHY CHOOSE MY FAMILY PODIATRY?

Not all running assessments in Brisbane look the same. The depth of what you get out of an hour with us comes down to the equipment in the room and the experience of the podiatrist running the session.

We use VALD Force Decks for strength and symmetry testing, which is the same platform used by professional sports teams, alongside high-speed video gait analysis so we are not relying on what we can see with the naked eye.

Our podiatrists are also runners themselves, so the recommendations come from people who understand training load, race prep, and the difference between sensible volume increases and the kind that tend to get people injured.

We work with everyday runners, teen and school athletes, adults coming back to running after a break, and competitors training for HYROX, triathlon, and obstacle course events.

Whatever level you are at, the goal is the same: keep you running, reduce injury risk, and help you go further or faster with less wear and tear.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR RUNNING ASSESSMENT?

There is not much to prepare. Bring the running shoes you currently train in, along with any orthotics you use.

Wear comfortable running gear: shorts and a T-shirt are fine. Be ready to run on a treadmill both barefoot and in your shoes.

If you have had injuries in the past, particularly the kind that flare up while running, mention them when you book or at the start of the session so we can build the assessment around what we need to look at.

Book your running assessment at My Family Podiatry in Albany Creek today. Our team will help you understand your movement, choose the right footwear, and give you the tools to stay injury free.

FAQs

Q: How long does a running assessment take?

A: Each session lasts around 60 minutes

Q: Do I need to be an experienced runner?

A: No. Assessments are suitable for beginners, school athletes, and elite runners.

Q: Can you help with running injuries?

A: Yes. We regularly assess and treat plantar fasciitis, shin splints, Achilles pain, knee injuries, and other running-related conditions.

Q: Will I need orthotics?

A: Not always. Sometimes footwear or training changes are enough. If orthotics are required, we’ll explain why and how they’ll help.

Q: Do you see children and teenagers?

A: Yes. We often assess junior athletes who are running in school sports or training programs. Identifying biomechanical issues early can prevent long-term injuries.
