If you are visiting My Family Podiatry for the first time, it is normal to have a few questions before booking.

Below are some of the most common things patients ask about appointments, referrals, fees and the types of problems we treat.

Do podiatrists just cut toenails?

No. Podiatrists are university-trained lower limb health professionals. We assess and treat a wide range of foot, ankle and lower limb problems, including heel pain, ingrown toenails, sports injuries, fungal nails, children’s foot pain, diabetic foot concerns and routine foot care.

Do I need a referral to see a podiatrist?

Usually, no. Most patients can book directly without a referral.

A referral may be needed if:

  • you are being seen under a Chronic Disease Management plan

  • you are attending under DVA

  • you are being seen under WorkCover or another third-party insurer

Can I book online?

Yes. You can book online through our booking system by clicking the button below, or contact the clinic if you would prefer help choosing the right appointment type.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring any relevant:

  • referrals

  • scans or imaging reports

  • previous treatment information

  • footwear you wear most often for work, walking, running or sport

If your problem is related to exercise or sport, the shoes you train in are especially helpful to bring.

What if I am not sure which appointment type to book?

That is very common. If you are unsure, contact the clinic and we can help guide you toward the most appropriate appointment.

Do you bulk bill?

We do not generally bulk bill standard podiatry appointments.

If you have a valid Chronic Disease Management plan from your GP, a Medicare rebate may apply for eligible appointments. Depending on the type of treatment required, there may still be an out-of-pocket cost.

Do you accept private health insurance?

Yes. If you have podiatry cover included in your private health insurance, we can process your claim on the spot using HICAPS.

Do you see patients under EPC or Chronic Disease Management plans?

Yes. If your GP has arranged a valid Chronic Disease Management plan, we can see you under that referral. Please note that the Medicare rebate may not cover the full appointment fee.

Do you see DVA patients?

Yes. We see eligible Department of Veterans’ Affairs patients with the appropriate referral.

Do you treat children?

Yes. We see children and teenagers for a range of foot and lower limb concerns, including heel pain, flat feet, gait concerns, sports injuries and ingrown toenails.

Do you treat sports injuries?

Yes. We regularly help patients with running injuries, Achilles pain, shin splints, heel pain, forefoot pain and other lower limb problems linked to training and sport.

Do you treat ingrown toenails?

Yes. We treat ingrown toenails regularly, including both conservative care and permanent nail procedures where appropriate.

Do you offer custom orthotics?

Yes. We offer custom foot orthotics when they are clinically appropriate. This begins with an assessment to determine whether orthotics are likely to help and what type of device would suit your feet and footwear best.

Do you offer shockwave therapy?

Yes. We offer shockwave therapy for selected lower limb conditions, including stubborn heel pain, Achilles pain and other tendon-related problems where appropriate.

Can I come in just for nail care or routine foot care?

Yes. Many patients attend for routine podiatry to manage thick nails, callus, corns, cracked heels or general foot care that has become difficult to manage at home.

How long is an appointment?

This depends on the appointment type and what needs to be assessed or treated. If you are unsure, contact the clinic and we can help explain what to expect.

How often should I see a podiatrist?

That depends on the issue. Some patients only need a once-off visit, while others benefit from regular care for recurring nail, skin or chronic foot problems.

Is there parking at the clinic?

There is a carpark directly in front of the clinic with additional street parking close by if needed.

Where is My Family Podiatry located?

My Family Podiatry is located in Albany Creek and sees patients from surrounding North Brisbane suburbs including Eatons Hill, Bridgeman Downs, Warner, Carseldine, Aspley and beyond.
